General AI assistants and MCP
Ulpian, ChatGPT, Claude and your own agents
Many lawyers already use a general AI assistant. The problem lies in how it is used: a matter pasted into a conversation, with no access rules and no record. Ulpian offers two routes. Its own assistant works on your matters. And its MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or your agents connect to Ulpian with the same rights and approvals as a member of the firm.
What you will see in Ulpian
Fictitious matter, sample data.
Claude, ChatGPT or your legal AI tool, connected to your matters with your rights
Ulpian supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to other software. Claude, ChatGPT or any compatible legal AI tool connects to the firm through a personal token: it sees what you see, and its proposals arrive in the same decision inbox. Choose an assistant.
Claude proposes 40 minutes on the Acme matter.
The token can be revoked at any time from the account settings.
The path of a request
What happens when someone at the firm asks the AI a question. Switch between a local model and an external provider to see what changes.
03 Your keys, your provider and your processing region, or a local model that stays in your infrastructure.
With an external provider, identifiers are pseudonymised before anything leaves, to the provider and region you chose.
What these assistants do well
- 01
Versatility
They answer almost anything, write well and are already installed on the team's computers.
- 02
Habit
Your associates know how to use them and do not want to change interface.

What the MCP server allows
- Your teams keep the assistant they know and work on Ulpian's matters.
- The assistant uses the same tools as a member of the firm, with the rights of the person connected.
- Its proposals arrive in the same decision inbox as those of Ulpian's agents.
What the firm keeps in hand
- Who is allowed to connect, and each person's token, revocable at any time.
- Approval of everything sent to a client, a court or a bank.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Claude, ChatGPT or another AI tool with my matters?
Yes, with any AI assistant or legal AI tool that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard for connecting AI tools, through Ulpian's MCP server and a personal token. These tools reach the same functions as you, with your rights, and their proposals land in the same decision inbox.
Is my data used to train a model?
With Ulpian's assistant, no: your documents and queries are not used to train any model. With an external assistant connected through MCP, its vendor's terms apply to what it receives; check them with your IT team.
